Robin Sharma on why protecting one’s energy is more important than intelligence | – Times of India

In today’s fast-paced and demanding world, one’s success is often tied to intelligence and technical skills. While intellect is undoubtedly valuable, popular leadership expert Robin Sharma emphasises that protecting one’s energy is an important tool for one’s well-being and true success in life. Our energy fuels our every action, decision, and interaction– be it in our personal or professional lives. It serves as the base for creativity, focus and resilience. And so, protecting one’s energy goes beyond physical stamina; it involves having mental clarity, and being emotionally and spiritually balanced. After all, one’s intelligence can only thrive when it operates in a well-balanced and nurtured state.
Challenging the traditional focus on IQ as the ultimate measure of potential, Robin Sharma once said in a video posted on his YouTube channel, “Nothing is worth the price of losing your peace of mind. That’s why 5 AM is so valuable; you can stand in the tranquillity of dawn’s early life. That’s why nature walks are so powerful. That’s why living with integrity is so powerful because even though it looks like you might be losing. When you are so honest, you care so much, you keep your promises, you stand for justice and you’re generous and fair, it might look like you are losing but you are absolutely winning (in life). It might take the world a little while to catch up to your goodness and your integrity, but Karma always rewards those who run it well.”
Adding to this, he further said, “I would also say, ‘It’s not only what you get in the world, it’s who you become (as a person). If you really want peace, keep your promises and be a just person. Care for people and do unexpected things for people who might not notice those things; those little triumphs of possibility, humanity, and decency will serve you so well because then every night when your head hits the pillow, you feel absolutely amazing’.”
In a social media post, Robin Sharma reiterated this idea and shared how by managing one’s energy a person can truly live a happier and more fulfilling life. This shift in one’s can also help one maintain meaningful relationships, and truly excel in all aspects of life.
“Energy is even more important than intelligence. Protect yours,” Sharma’s post read. He further shared six tactical ideas to do so, namely:
1. Exercise each morning
2. Clean up your nutrition
3. Walk in nature daily
4. Optimise your sleep
5. Unfollow toxic influencers
6. Release the energy vampires.
